Showers Pass have just re-launched their Spring Classic and it’s a race winner.

An eye-catching limited edition color, new fabric tech and eco-friendly lining make this (already awesome) packable waterproof a strong contender for your next cycling jacket.

Showers Pass have taken all the best features of the 1st Edition jacket and turned the dial up a notch (or three) with an exciting feast of new extras.

Not only that, but they’ve also managed to shave more than 9% off the total weight from the original jacket, making this ultralight 3-layer hardshell even more slimline.

Let’s take a look at the improvements that Showers Pass have made for the new Spring Classic.

At-a-glance Improvements

  • Reduced weight: 9.6 oz vs 10.6 oz (Medium jacket)
  • Improved breathability: thanks to the new eliteAIR fabric tech in underarm areas
  • Eco-friendly fabrics: through both the lining and stretchy side panels
  • New Limited edition color option: iconic and highly visible, “Goldenrod”

Spring Classic jacket highlights

There’s certainly plenty to love about the Spring Classic, however I want to pick out some of the key features that make this jacket a winner for road cyclists.

Highly Waterproof

The 3-layer construction, with Elite hardshell fabric on the exterior and 100% recycled tricot lining on the interior, give a superior 30k waterproof rating.

Bring in the stretchy eliteAIR panels on the underarm, full seam-taping and storm-proof main zipper, and you get a waterproof jacket that is also designed to move with your body.

Highly Breathable

And, whilst many waterproofs can get steamy as the pace picks up, the Spring Classic keeps you dry on all fronts:

The Elite fabric has a 20k breathability rating.

With the sizable core vents and ‘exhaust pipe’ across the shoulders giving riders the ability to ‘tune’ the airflow mid-ride (and without causing the jacket to billow).

Custom Fit

The Spring Classic has a trim race-friendly fit with semi-elasticized cuffs that are easy to get on and off (but won’t let the wind and rain in).

At the top end of the jacket, a wide-tooth main zipper is easy to operate and adjust on-the-go.

Whilst, around the drop tail hem, a cinch cord and silicone gripper ensure a perfect fit without the prospect of the jacket riding up as you ride along.

Practical Details

Details count and the Spring Classic has them in abundance.

3M Scotchlite panels allow great visibility in poor light conditions and at night.

The collar has a snug fit and the asymmetric front zipper, and soft lining fabric, ensure that skin won’t get sweaty or chafed.

And, because it doesn’t ALWAYS rain (even where I live), the capacious rear pocket can also double as a storage pouch for the jacket.

The Spring Classic is available in a men’s fit and in five sizes, from XS through to XL.

The jacket comes in two colorways: the ever-popular Cayenne and now the company’s iconic (and highly visible) new Goldenrod.

Conclusion

Can you improve on a classic? Showers Pass certainly thinks so and, with the launch of their updated Spring Classic jacket, I’m inclined to agree.

The 1st edition jacket was already a favorite for its trim race fit and waterproof/breathability rating.

Now the new jacket takes it up a gear with reduced weight, eco-friendly fabrics and limited edition colorway.

It might just be the right time to upgrade your raceday kit.
