It would be fair to say that cycling is not necessarily the most wallet-friendly of leisure activities. And, while there are plenty of folks who are happy to spend $10k on a pro-level bike, there are many more people who don’t necessarily have that kind of spare cash lying around. Or would be terrified to take out a bike like that for fear of getting it scratched, stolen, or forgetting where they’d left it parked after an enjoyable craft beer fuelled evening.

So, when you see a highly-regarded bike apparel manufacturer take a feature-stuffed cycling jacket and pin a budget price tag on it, then it’s time to sit up a little straighter and see what they’re up to.

The Century CC jacket is the latest product to be launched by Showers Pass and it’s part of their 25th anniversary celebrations. With a fully seam-taped Artex 2.5-layer performance fabric construction, the Century is windproof, waterproof and breathable, keeping you dry no matter the weather or how hard you’re pedaling along. And it’s not just the fabric that’s waterproof, the zips are weather-resistant and the main zipper has an inner storm flap to keep the chill out. The breathability of the Artex fabric is also dialled up a notch by the addition of large air vents at the sides and rear letting sweat evaporate.

It’s a cycling specific jacket too, so you’ll see a drop hem at the rear to keep your pants dry from both the rain rolling down off it and the muddy puddles splashing up on to it. Paired with this are the longer sleeves that keep your wrists dry as you hunch over the handlebars.

Wet weather often comes with poor visibility and so the bright Leaf Green color and the 3M reflective trim detailing allows you to be seen from a long distance away, no matter how gloomy and overcast the conditions. For night-time bike commuting, this is a huge bonus.

But even in bright and sunny weather there are a couple of features that you still won’t be able to see: the Clean Color eco-friendly dyes and the 44% recycled fabric used in the manufacturing of the Century CC. Both of these being part of Showers Pass’ long-term sustainability goals.

The Century CC is available in a women’s and men’s style. Size Small through XXL for each style.

In my view, this cycling jacket is a high-specification, wallet-friendly winner that checks all the boxes for waterproofing and breathability. Grab one for yourself now and stay dry whatever the weather.
