What are the best sunglasses for cycling?

I can remember the first time that I saw a pair of Oakley sunglasses in the store. It was (with huge apologies to Mrs BicycleVolt) love at first sight. The styling was awesome, the range of lens colors was jaw-dropping. Standing looking at the Oakley display I must have been like a rabbit in the headlights and I think I eventually had to be dragged away. Sigh…

The thing with Oakley sunglasses though is that there’s such a range of options to choose from that it can be quite confusing to pick the right ones. Especially when you want a pair for a particular sport, such as cycling.

I’ve done some research on your behalf to find the best Oakley glasses for biking, based on the key features and customer reviews. Shall we take a look?

What are the best Oakley sunglasses for cycling

There are lots of great sunglasses in Oakley’s range, but I’ve narrowed these down to a shortlist of fantastic cycling sunnies. Let’s go through these now.

Oakley Men’s Jawbreaker Shield Sunglasses

I think it’s probably impossible to put these sunglasses on and not feel you’ve turned into Superman, isn’t it? Fantastic colors and styling on these glasses that really set them apart from more run-of-the-mill eye protectors.

Looking at the lenses first. These are Oakley’s Prizm lenses designed for medium to bright light conditions, giving superior clarity and detail. In terms of the frames, we’ve already mentioned the outstanding colors. What you can’t see though are the super-grippy Unobtanium earsocks and nose pads which keep the sunglasses where they should be on your face, no matter how bumpy the trails.

Oakley Jawbreaker w/ PRIZM Road Lens

I love Jawbreakers. Amazing contrast, even under the difficult and highly variable light conditions that we often find in Scotland. Colors look fantastic and the wide lenses give a super-wide range of visibility. That means you don’t need to swivel your head to see obstacles (or competitors) to your left or right.

Available in white or (my favorite) the matte black. The Jawbreaker is a pair of cycling glasses to go fast in.

Oakley Radar EV Path Men’s Sunglasses with Oakley Accessory Kit

For me, the Radar EV Path sunglasses are the Goldilocks of eye protection. Some glasses have lenses so big that I end up looking like some weird human-shaped bug on a bike. Some have lenses so small that I can’t see how they’d actually protect my eyes from anything. But the EV Path glasses are just the right size.

They also come in a wide range of colors and styles (18 in total), which can make deciding which to go for tricky, but does mean that you can get the perfect look to complement the rest of your biking outfit.

Oakley sunglasses for bike riding

Thanks for joining me to look at Oakley sunglasses today. I hope that this selection has given you a few choices for the perfect pair of glasses for your bike riding. Cycling is a great sport but only if you have the right kit (much like any sport). Budget cycling glasses are great but, if you really want to take your cycling to the next level, then Oakleys are (in my humble opinion) unbeatable.
