Best leggings for spin class
Originally designed for yoga classes, lululemon pants are ideal for a range of activities. One of the best uses for them (IMHO) is spinning.
Whether you’re a fan of working out at a fitness studio with one of the big-names like Cyclebar, SoulCycle, BYKlyn, or Flywheel. Or whether you’re more likely to work out in the comfort of your own home on your Peloton bike. lululemon pants may well be the perfect item of technical athletic clothing for your lower half.
Quick Answer: Align Crop Yoga Pants
If you’ve ever tried spinning without wearing tight-fitting stretchy pants like these, then you’ll probably have experienced the pain of chafed and irritated skin on your inner thighs. Not pleasant and the soreness can last for many days (making the thought of getting back on the spin bike for next week’s class unbearable!)
Thankfully, lululemon pants avoid all of that by covering up the skin of your upper legs with their soft Nulu, Luon, and Luxtreme fabrics. As your legs pedal, it’s the fabric that rubs together, stopping chafing in its tracks. Because their fabrics are stretchy, they hug your body and move with you. Staying in shape whilst you get into shape.
Soft Fabrics + Flat Seams = No Chaffing
At home or in a spin class studio it’s guaranteed that it will be super hot, and if you’ve tried a class in heavier weight pants, thick joggers, or shorts, you’ll know how sweaty and uncomfortable that can get. All the lululemon pants are made from lightweight fabrics, that cool-feeling and super-fast drying, so you stay comfortable. Even when the class heats up.
Seams in these pants are flat-stitched and that stops any rubbing on your skin. Plus, a feature that I really love about all their pants, is the secret pocket stashed away in the waistband. Perfect for your keys, gym pass, or credit card. This is athletic clothing that is absolutely functional and beautifully aesthetic.
Today, we’re going to take a look at the options for some of the best lululemon pants available that are ideal for spinning.
Pick the ones that you like most. Buy them. Pop them on. Then head out and crush that spin class.
Let’s take a look, shall we?
Best lululemon leggings for spin class
Okay, let’s take a look at each of the recommendations in detail.
lululemon produces 3 different lengths of yoga pants: Crop, 7/8, and Full Length. They’re all perfect for spinning, and the choice really comes down to your personal preference.
Crop pants go down to mid-calf with a 21inch seam. 7/8 go to below your calf and just above your ankle. Full length goes to your ankle.
As I said, it’s really personal preference as to which length is right for you. The full-length pants will be slightly warmer than the crop pants, though you probably won’t notice the difference in the midst of a class. They’re all snug-fitting, so won’t ride up as you move on the bike.
These Align Crop pants are made from their Nulu fabric and come in black or navy. The Nulu fabric is buttery-soft, sweat-wicking, and feels barely there (a huge benefit vs thicker yoga pants that seem to drag you down). They’re made from 80% nylon and 20% Lycra, which gives it its special four-way stretch and helps the pants keep their shape, so no more baggy knees.
They have the special waistband pocket to tuck away any accessories you have (saves you from trying to hold onto a credit card as you pedal!) They’re smooth seamed, soft, and perfect for spinning in.
Slightly longer than the crop pants, the 7/8 pants also come in black or navy. They’re also made from Nulu fabric for the same buttery-softness and have a high waistband that lies flat and won’t dig in to your skin as you move on the bike.
Hidden in that waistband is a feature of Align pants that I really love. That’s the secret waistband pocket. It’s accessed from the inside of the waistband, so there’s no chance of items falling out as you pedal, and you can stash phone, keys, or credit card inside with no worries about leaving them at the studio when you leave.
It’s also worth knowing that Nulu fabric can be machine washed and tumble dried, doesn’t need ironing, and you won’t need to take these pants to the dry cleaners. Practical and gorgeous.
These pants stretch all the way down to your ankles with a 28″ inseam. The buttery-soft Nulu fabric they’re made from makes them incredibly comfy with a “barely there” feel.
With flat-stitched seams throughout there’s no chance of rubbing or chafing, which is a huge advantage over “cheap ‘n’ cheerful” pants.
Like all lululemon yoga pants, they have a high waist and this is a great feature for spinning. As you ride, you’ll tend to be bent forward over the handlebars. If you’ve tried this in low-waisted pants or shorts before, you’ll realize how uncomfortable (and embarrassing) it can be as your pants droop down. Not so with the snug, high-waisted Lululemon pants, which stay firmly where they’re supposed to be, throughout your workout.
The Nulu fabric is machine-washable and can be tumble-dried on a low setting. So they’re very practical. The fabric also has Lycra fibers added to the construction which gives these pants their special four-way stretch and helps them retain their shape spin class after spin class.
Next up we have the High Times yoga pants. 7/8 length, so they come down to just below your calf / above your ankle – the classic pants length with a 26″ inseam.
These pants are made from Full-On Luon fabric. Luon fabric is breathable and cottony-soft, with a four-way stretch to make them comfy and very practical for spinning. Full-On Luon has the same qualities with a tighter knit, so it’s perfect for studios that have the air-con turned up to the max. When you’re working out in a cold environment like this it’s best to wear clothing that keeps your muscles warm (to avoid pulls and tears to your muscle fibers). So these pants are the perfect legwear.
These pants have a high-rise fit and that also conceals the special lululemon secret waistband pocket, accessed from inside the waistband. Because where else are you supposed to stash your gym pass?
The High Times pants come in sizes from 2 – 12 and four different colors: Black, Heathered Black, Arrow Jacquard Battleship, and my favorite named color… Wee Are From Space Nimbus Battleship.
The Wunder Under yoga pants are high-rise (for a little bit of tummy control) and full length at 32″ inseam, so they come down to your ankle. Which is actually a really useful feature if you’re going to spin classes through the chillier months. The pants will tuck neatly into your winter boots, thereby eliminating the dreaded Chilly Ankle Syndrome. Shiver.
They’re made from Full-On Luon fabric, which is cottony-soft and has four-way stretch. It also has a tight-knit so it’s great for cooler studio environments or for a seamless transition between spin class and happy hour.
Like all lululemon pants, the Wunder Under leggings have the secret waistband pocket. You could put something sensible in that, like say an energy gel, but it might be more useful to go with a practical item, like your credit card for the post-spin-class recovery session (at the bar).
The Wunder Under pants are available in sizing from 2-12 and a fantastic range of colors. Choose from a total of 11 colors, including Blush Blossom Alpine White Candy Pink and Ombre Melange Space Dye.
What to bring to spin class
Okay, so hopefully you’ve got one or more pairs of these pants in mind for your next spinning class?
The Fly Away Tamer headband is an awesome name for an awesome piece of spin class kit.
It hugs your head in all the right places and is perfect for training hard at spin class. Headbands are a huge benefit for spinning because you’re often leaning forward over the handlebars. Do that without wearing anything on your head and you’ll find that your hair will hang over your face and get sweaty. You could wear a cap, but that can get really hot, and spin studios tend to be hot enough as it is without putting on extra insulation. Plus the headband stops the sweat from dripping into your eyes as you approach the much-needed end of the class.
The headband is 2″ and the Lycra fibers that are added to the Luon fabric give it great shape retention and stretch. So it has a lovely snug fit rather than feeling like it’s digging into your head.
Once you’re done working out then the headband can be machine washed and tumble dried to keep it looking perfect for next time.
My most essential piece of kit for any spin class is a big bottle of water.
This is one of the best I’ve seen. A massive 26 ounces and available in Purist Venture Black.
They’re designed by bike expert, Specialized, and have an anti-spill sports cap and leak-proof lid. That’s great news because trying to drink from a water bottle and cycle your spin bike at the same time is not the easiest thing to achieve. So you’re not going to end up spilling your drink down your top.
These bottles are BPA-free with a glass-like lining, so you know they’ll be good to drink out of and won’t taint your drink. When you’re finished with your class you can pop your bottle in the top shelf of your dishwasher to get it clean for next week’s class.
Our final piece of lululemon loveliness on this list is the Reusable Tote bag.
Available in an awesome graphic print design celebrating lululemon’s 20th year, with a choice of 4 great colors, and a useful snap closure.
This tote measures approximately 12″ tall by 9.25″ wide. So it’s great for your workday lunch. But, more importantly, it’s perfect for your spin class essentials. The bag is made from waterproof fabric so it’s really easy to wipe clean. It’s also designed to pack up small, so you can either pop it inside a large bag or stash it in the closet ready for later.
